Amibroker: How To Plot Your Trading System On A Chart (incl. Buy/Sell Arrows)

Beginners Course  |  Intermediate Course  |  Amibroker Course

Seeing your trading system visualized on a price chart is one of the best, quickest and easiest ways to determine if you like it, if you can follow it, or even if it is working as you want it to.

Further still, if you can overlay it on a chart with buy and sell arrows, you can see exactly where it is you would be buying and selling, giving you instant feedback on your system.

The video below is great lesson on how to plot your trading system on a chart so you can see it, including buy and sell arrows.  Check it out!

How We Enter Our Code

To plot something on a chart, we use the “Plot” function.  Once we type “Plot”, we open our bracket, ” ( ” and Amibroker will tell us what it expects us to put in.

For the sake of the video, I have plotted the Array we set up, BolliTop and BolliBot, given them a name using inverted commas, ” “, and then given it a colour and a style.  You can see more info on choosing colours and styles for your plot at the Amibroker Website.

Then we plot the buy and sell arrows, using Buy*(our array).  Again, in this example I use the Array I set up before, BolliTop.  And the real tip here, is where we place our arrows – we tell Amibroker to show the arrow at the Array we set up, instead of say the high or low of the bar, which you could also do.

I hope this helps, happy trending and enjoy!

Thank you for the great videos, I’m learning a lot. I hope you continue to add to the list.

Congratulations! You are a great teacher and for sure inpirers a lot of people. Is it possible to build a system with buy & sell using both BB and RSI? I think this would make your system even more effective. Cheers

    Hey John,
Nice suggestion! What did you have in mind? I thought maybe it could be done in two ways – a Mean Reversion system with price at the bottom band and below 30 RSI for example, or a Trend Following system with price through the upper band and above 50 RSI, for example.

Both would be very interesting to get some results on. I’m thinking about doing some more videos soon… this would definitely be on the list.

    Cheers – Dave
