The ASX200 is really touching the 4800 mark…I suspect a bounce Dave with some support offered in NOV and DEC 2009. Interesting times ahead and of late I am a little pessimistic. Greece is lettin gthe recovery down but are we due for a correction below trend, would it be healthy?

    Cheers for the good work…

  4. Dave McLachlan - April 29, 2010

Hey Colin – great call, and notice that it bounced directly off the longer term trend line yesterday, and is flirting with it again today.

A sell signal on a longer term would be a Dow Theory exit on a weekly chart (like Dec 2007).

    Hi Dave,
Just found your website & Trading diary, very interesting, you like similar stocks to me, have put you on my Blogroll list.

    Gday Dave

I am new to your website – great thanks.
I see you going long in a down trending market with ANZ and RIV both stocks are trending down – ANZ more so than RIV- would’nt it be safer to have shorted these stocks.
Just interested in why you would go long?

    Thanks

  7. Dave McLachlan - May 26, 2010

    Hi James –

Great question, and in fact you are right. It is a bold trade, with a lower win percentage. But the idea behind it is trade management – both stocks now have stop losses at break even, for a theoretical risk-free trade.

As the overall down trend of the market unfolds however, I’ll definitely be looking at shorting opportunities again!

    Hi Dave,

Great website and videos nice to see another persons trading diary and the reasons behind entering those trades.

Do you have a Profit/Loss Chart of your trades since you began trading. I i.e a Chart or table showing the funds you strated with and a graph showing your growth.

I think that would be really usefull to a lot of traders.

    Keep up the goodwork

    Many Thanks

    Christian Turner

  9. Dave McLachlan - September 22, 2010

    Hi Christian,

Many thanks! And yes – I don’t have a chart made up currently (my excel skills are not very good!), but I think they are fantastic – especially tracking against an index or similar. Will look into doing one up for the site as time permits!

    Best – Dave

I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this website and videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Are you on Twitter by any chance (search #asx)?

    Cheers

    Hey Sanat,

Thank you! Really good to have you here. I’m not on twitter currently, but will definitely look into it.

Hope your trading is going well – Dave

    Gday Dave

Thanks for your diary and market watch.

Do you have a summary of the trades you have taken for this calendar year showing entry, exit and profit or loss?

    Thanks again

    James

  13. Dave McLachlan - December 5, 2010

Hey James – I have been looking at something like that for a while. As I get more time here I will definitely find a way to put it on the site!

    Cheers – Dave

Yes, am now on twitter – @ASXDave. Have uploaded the feed to the left sidebar too :)

  17. StuntTrader - February 15, 2012

I was pretty pleased with a 7% gain in DLS today, & then I saw what COF did.
I must be stuck in the beginners cycle cos that sort of thing sure makes my day!
    Cheers

  18. Dave McLachlan - February 15, 2012

DLS – what a winner! That’s the most orderly rise I’ve seen in a long time. The perfect entry in November too, nice one ST :)

  19. StuntTrader - February 17, 2012

Hey, something’s smokin’ COF COF :)

  20. Dave McLachlan - February 18, 2012

Home runs sure are nice :)

  21. StuntTrader - February 28, 2012

I like the look of ASL – recent all time highs, recent 52wk highs, & looks like it may have completed a pullback today.
I’ll be buying in tomorrow but not for my blog as that’s done on an end of week basis.
As you’re operating on a daily basis can you update your buys/sells on the day?
    Cheers
    ST

  22. Dave McLachlan - February 28, 2012

Hey ST – yes I’ll usually put trades up on twitter during the week as it’s easy to do, but the full diary is only updated at week end at the moment.

ASL has been a solid winner for me so far – I am very grateful! Stops are in just in case, of course.

  23. Bernie Robinson - April 1, 2012

I am thinking of opening up the Trading Diary to show ALL entry signals that occur according to the “Entries and Exits” module rules, not just the ones I take. If you think this is a good idea, let me know in the comments and we’ll see how it goes.
Dave, great idea! I have your “entries and exits” info and some real life data would not only be interesting in itself, but greatly help in educating me to be able to apply them better yself.

  24. Bernie Robinson - April 1, 2012

Dave, should have added to last email response re “entries and exits”……please provide these on your website and/or via email, I am not and don’t want to be a user of twitter/facebook/etc..Call me old-fashioned but I value my privacy and hate unsolicited/automated messages.

  25. Dave McLachlan - April 2, 2012

Totally agree Bernie – thanks for the feedback! Great to have you as a member too. Really great stuff, and it looks like the people’s choice is that there will be more stocks with entry signals shown soon, and yes it will be at this site :)

    Cheers, Dave

  26. Will - May 7, 2012

Great trading diary Dave thanks for doing this

  27. Dave McLachlan - May 8, 2012

    Hi Dave,
I’m President Newcastle Chapter ATAA and we are having a Traders Workshop meeting Saturday 12th January.

Amongst other things, we will be discussing Amibroker usage, backtesting and all things traders use.

I’d like permission to view one of your utube videos at the meeting. Of course if you are Sydney based would love to invite you to the workshop.
    best regards

Useful info, also, if I may add.. Your investing plan should include
a list of reasons for investing. Figuring out why you want to invest, and what you are going to do with the money you earn can help you formulate the rest of your investment plan. It will also help you stay motivated to contribute to your investments.
